Despite the rain on Thursday 5 and Friday 6 August it didn’t dampen the spirits of the teams who turned out to support Qwen and his family for the 10th annual Una Cunningham Memorial Golf Classic, set in the fabulous 18-hole Concra Golf Course.
This year he was also abled assisted by the formidable Nudie Hughes.
Many of the participating teams represented local businesses, families and many travelled especially for the occasion including Kerry legend Jack O Shea and rally champion Paddy White.Several of the teams have played in every classic since the event was launched over 10 years ago.
The classic is organised each year by Owen Cunningham husband of the late Una Cunningham with his family and extended family. All funds raised by Owen and his family are donated to Castleblayney Cancer Society and to date the event has raised more than €200,000 and for this year we were again presented with over €22.000 – truly remarkable!
Once again team players were treated to wonderful hospitality by the Cunningham family and the staff of the View restaurant in Concra Wood. The prizes were very generously sponsored by businesses associated with the Cunningham family and business.
Owen expressed his delight with the success of the event and the number of teams and players who turned out to play and to show their support in such adverse weather conditions. Owen thanked the many sponsors of the magnificent prizes.
Castleblayney Cancer Society expressed their sincere gratitude and thanks for the huge efforts by the Cunningham family and friends who every year for 10 years organise the wonderful Una Cunningham Memorial Classic. The Society chairperson Moya outlined how all the funds go towards assisting patients and their families in what can be very challenging times and to state If you are anyone you know is living with cancer or got a recent diagnosis do not hesitate to contact us we are here to help.
