A.G.M. 2018 - Monaghan Daffodil Day Launch

Monaghan Daffodil Day Launch

This year Castleblayney Cancer Society hosted the Monaghan launch of Daffodil Day.

“Without research we wouldn’t have treatments for cancer”

Speaking at the Monaghan launch of Daffodil Day in the Glencarn Hotel this was one of the main points emphasised by Ena Barrett Community Fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society.

As cancer incidence increases, public support is needed now more than ever and you can show your support on Daffodil Day Friday 23 March by buying a daffodil.

Helen O Driscoll also spoke on her new role as Cancer Screening Promotion Adviser, while Dympna Mc Govern spoke about her work as a cancer society nurse in the community and the families affected by cancer.

Brian McGovern a volunteer driver with the care to drive scheme spoke about the role of taking patients to hospitals for their treatment and that this service is now available to patients going to Drogheda as well as Cavan Hospital.

This year Daffodil Day is supported by Boots Ireland and we had support on the night from staff members of their Monaghan branch.

The Irish Cancer Society offer a Free phone information service for anyone concerned about cancer Free phone 1800 200 700.

The launch was followed by Castleblayney Cancer Society A.G.M.

A.G.M.

The chairperson Mairead Mc Guinness welcomed everyone to the A.G.M. and the secretary Melissa read the minutes of the last year’s A.G.M.

Mary the treasurer detailed how our expenditure exceeded our income due to an increased demand on our service but due to her prudent and diligent management we continue to have a reserve fund. She outlined a variety of events that took place throughout the year.

The bulk of the expense was providing transport to clients attending hospitals in Cavan, Drogheda and Dublin. The rest of the expenditure was used to provide Home Support and some financial assistance.

It is important to highlight the all monies donated to Castleblayney Cancer Society are used to directly support people in our area affected by Cancer. The are no administrative cost and all of the work of the committee is done on a voluntary basis.

An update was made to our constitution and passed.

This year we had a few changes to our committee. Tracy Liddy O Connor retired as PRO

We also marked the retirement of our long standing Chairperson Mairead Mc Guinness. Mairead has been involved with Castleblayney Cancer since its establishment in 1989. Under her guidance and leadership as chairperson over the past 28 years, she has supported, helped and encouraged all who have worked with her. Mairead has devoted many hours of her time and wisdom to the society and we thank her for her dedication and tireless professionalism in all her work.

We wish them both good luck in their new endeavours.

Finally, the night concluded with our Spring Draw.
