Our chairperson Moya Lynch welcomed everyone to the A.G.M. and our secretary Melissa read over the minutes of the last year’s A.G.M.

During her speech chairperson Moya outlined our work throughout the year highlighting the generosity of our local community and that all funds donated to Castleblayney Cancer Society are used to directly support people in our local area affected by Cancer. The are no administrative cost and all of the work of the committee is done on a voluntary basis. Also noted that as this year is our 30th anniversary we will have an upcoming event in October to celebrate.

On Daffodil Day this year we raised €11,000 which goes to a central cancer fund in the Irish Cancer Society. Our local community indirectly benefit from this with night nursing and other supports provided by the Irish Cancer Society such as the Care to Drive programme. The Irish Cancer Society also offer a Free phone information service for anyone concerned about cancer Free phone 1800 200 700.

Mary our treasurer and Genevieve our incoming treasurer detailed our income and expenditure for the year and outlined a variety of fundraising events that took place throughout the year.

The bulk of the expense was providing transport to clients attending hospitals in Cavan, Drogheda and Dublin. The rest of the expenditure was used to provide home support, care, counselling and some financial assistance. It is important to highlight the all monies donated to Castleblayney Cancer Society are used to directly support people in our area affected by Cancer.

This year we have a change to the position of treasurer on our committee. Our long standing treasurer Mary Connelly has handed over the books after holding the role since 2011.Previous to being treasurer she also was secretary for a number of years.  Mary one of the founder members has been involved with Castleblayney Cancer since its establishment in 1989. Her dedication and confidentiality in the role of supporting all those who need help in a most daunting period in their life is an example to us all.
